iPhone 18 Pro Brings a Camera With a Real Adjustable Aperture

The first reviews of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max landed on September 16, two days before the phones reached stores. The big story is the camera.
A Camera First for iPhone
The main 48MP camera now has a variable aperture. Six small blades open and close to change how much light gets in. It can step between f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0.

A Smaller Island and a Faster Chip
Apple moved part of the Face ID system under the screen. That shrinks the Dynamic Island, the pill shape at the top, by about a quarter.
Both phones use the new A20 Pro chip. Apple says it is 22 to 27 percent faster on everyday tasks and 40 to 45 percent faster on graphics than last year.
Battery, Weight and Colors
Apple rates the Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback and the Pro Max for up to 45 hours. The phones got heavier, though. The Pro weighs 211 grams and the Pro Max weighs 249 grams.
Colors are burgundy, glacier, silver and black.
Prices
The Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299, each with 256GB. Storage now reaches 2TB, which costs $2,399 for the Pro and $2,499 for the Pro Max. That top model is the most expensive iPhone yet.
